Worked example
A sports card sells in a live show for $50 and the buyer pays $6 shipping. At the standard tier, commission is 8% of the $50 item price = $4.00. Payment processing is 2.9% of the $56 order total = $1.62 plus $0.30 = $1.92. Fees total $5.92, so the payout is $56.00 − $5.92 = $50.08. After the $20 card cost and the $6 label, profit is $24.08.
How Whatnot fees work
Whatnot is a live-shopping marketplace where sellers run auctions and buy-it-now sales on video, plus a standard marketplace for fixed-price listings. Sports cards, trading card games, coins, collectibles, and fashion are the biggest categories, and sellers range from hobbyists streaming on weekends to full-time card shops.
Since September 21, 2026, Whatnot's commission depends on your category and your total sales over the previous 28 days. The standard rate, for anyone under $15,000 in that window, is 8% of the item sale price in every category except coins, which is 4%. Above $15,000 the rate steps down through six tiers: sports and TCG bottom out at 6.5% past $500,000, fashion at 4.5%, other collectibles at 5%, coins at 3.5%, and everything else at 4%. Your rate is locked for each four-week period, and cancelled orders are subtracted from your total.
Every order also pays a 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee, charged on the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping and sales tax. Commission itself is charged on the item price only.
For a $50 card with $6 buyer-paid shipping at the standard tier, that works out to $4.00 commission and $1.92 processing, leaving $50.08 before your label and product cost.

- What commission is charged on: the item sale price (gross merchandise value). Shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included.
- Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction in the US, calculated on the total order value the buyer pays, including item price, buyer-paid shipping, and taxes.
- Cancelled orders are subtracted from your sales total for the period they were placed in, so they do not help you reach a tier.
Ways to keep more of each Whatnot sale
- Watch the $0.30 on cheap lots. A $2 card with $4 shipping pays $0.16 commission but $0.47 processing, about a quarter of the item price. Bundle low-value cards into bigger lots.
- Coins are the cheapest category to sell at 4% standard. Do not tag coin lots as 'other collectibles' and pay 8%.
- If you are close to $15,000 in a 28-day window, a strong final show can lift the whole next four weeks to Tier 1: 7.75% instead of 8% on sports and TCG, or 7% on fashion.
- Buyer-paid shipping is not fee-free. It escapes commission but still pays 2.9% processing, so on a $6 label the fee is about $0.17.
- Price for the combined bite: at the standard tier, roughly 10.9% of the item price plus $0.30 and 2.9% of shipping leaves your account on every sports-card sale.

At the standard tier with $8 buyer-paid shipping: $8.00 commission plus 2.9% of $108 + $0.30 = $3.43 processing, so $11.43 in fees and a payout of $96.57 before your label cost.
How do Whatnot's volume tiers work?
Your total completed sales across every category and format over a 28-day period set your commission tier for the next 28-day period. Under $15,000 is the standard rate; Tier 1 starts at $15,000 and Tier 6 at $500,000. The rate is locked for the full period.
Did Whatnot change its fees?
Yes. A new tiered commission structure took effect September 21, 2026 for existing sellers. Sellers who joined after that date start on the new structure the following Monday.
Does Whatnot charge a fee on canceled orders?
Cancelled orders are subtracted from your sales total for the period. Refund and cancellation fee handling is covered in Whatnot's help center; it is not modeled here.
Is there a listing or monthly fee on Whatnot?
No. Whatnot's published schedule is commission plus payment processing; there is no listing fee or subscription.
