Worked example
A $60 Home, Kitchen, Decor & Garden item with free shipping has a total sales price of $60. Walmart's referral fee in that category is 15%, so the fee is $9.00 and there is nothing else to pay: no monthly fee, no per-item fee, no payment processing line. Walmart pays out $51.00. After the $25 unit cost and $7 to ship the order, profit is $19.00.
How Walmart Marketplace fees work
Walmart Marketplace lets third-party businesses sell on Walmart.com next to Walmart's own inventory. It is invitation-and-application based and aimed at established sellers with a US business, a track record on other marketplaces and fast, cheap shipping. Individuals clearing out a closet are not the audience; brands, wholesalers and private-label sellers are.
The fee structure is the simplest of the big marketplaces. There are no setup, monthly or per-item fees. Walmart charges one referral fee when an item sells, calculated on the total sales price, which includes shipping, handling and gift-wrap charges. The rate is 15% in most categories, including Home & Kitchen, Toys & Games, Books, Pet Supplies and Shoes & Handbags. Consumer Electronics, Cameras, Collectibles and Video Game Consoles pay 8%, Personal Computers 6%, Automotive and Musical Instruments 12%. Apparel is tiered at 5%, 10% or 15% depending on price, and low-priced Beauty, Baby and Grocery items pay 8% instead of 15%.
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) is optional: if Walmart stores and ships your inventory, fulfillment and storage fees apply on top of the referral fee. Those depend on size and weight and are not part of this calculator.

- No other selling fees: Walmart's pricing page states there are zero setup, monthly or hidden fees, and there is no separate payment processing charge. The page lists no minimum referral fee.
- Walmart Fulfillment Services (optional): if you use WFS, per-unit fulfillment fees and monthly storage fees apply in addition to the referral fee. They vary by size and weight and are not modeled here.
Ways to keep more of each Walmart Marketplace sale
- Compare the category rate before listing: a $50 product pays $7.50 in Home & Kitchen (15%) but $4.00 in Consumer Electronics (8%) and $3.00 in Personal Computers (6%). Make sure the item is categorized correctly.
- Watch the apparel thresholds. A garment priced at $20.00 pays 10% but $20.01 pays 15%, and $15.00 pays only 5%. Pricing just under a threshold can save more than the price cut costs.
- Free shipping does not cut the fee, because the referral percentage applies to shipping charged to the buyer as well. Fold shipping into the price and compare your own label cost against WFS rates.
- There is no monthly fee, so low-volume or seasonal catalogs cost nothing to keep listed. Use that to test products on Walmart without the fixed cost of an Amazon Professional plan.
- Walmart periodically offers new-seller referral fee discounts for the first months after approval. Check the current offer when you apply; none is stated on the pricing page.
