Worked example
You sell a jacket for $25. Vinted takes no selling fee from US sellers, so your payout is the full $25.00. After the $8 you paid for the jacket, profit is $17.00. The buyer separately pays a Buyer Protection fee of $0.70 + 5% of $25 = $1.95, plus shipping, on top of your price; none of that comes out of your $25.
How Vinted fees work
Vinted is a secondhand marketplace for clothing, shoes, accessories, kids' items, and some home goods. Its US pitch is simple: selling is free. Most US sellers are people clearing out closets, alongside a growing number of resellers who prefer a 0% fee to Poshmark's 20% or eBay's roughly 13%.
There is no listing fee, no selling fee, and no payment processing fee for sellers. If your item sells for $25, $25 lands in your Vinted balance. Shipping is paid by the buyer, who chooses a carrier option at checkout; you print the prepaid label and drop the package off.
Vinted funds itself on the buyer side. Every order carries a mandatory Buyer Protection fee of $0.70 plus 5% of the item price, added automatically at checkout on top of your price, shipping, and any sales tax. On a $25 item that is $1.95. It covers refunds if an item never arrives or is not as described.
Because buyers see your price plus that fee plus shipping, a $25 listing might show as roughly $32 to $35 delivered. Keep that in mind when you price against other apps, and remember that the only optional costs on your side are paid promotions: item bumps and Wardrobe Spotlight, priced in the app before you confirm.
- Selling fee: 0%. Vinted's US pricelist has no listing fee, no commission, and no payment processing fee for sellers. What the buyer pays for the item is what you receive.
- Buyer Protection fee (paid by the buyer): $0.70 plus 5% of the item price, or of the combined bundle price, added automatically to every order at checkout. It does not touch your payout.
- Shipping: paid by the buyer, who picks a delivery option at checkout. You get a prepaid label to print. There is no fee to you for the label.
- Sales tax: collected from the buyer where required and handled by Vinted; it is not deducted from your price.
- Optional promotions: item bumps (3 or 7 days) and Wardrobe Spotlight are the only seller-paid features. The price is shown in the app before you confirm each order and is not a percentage of sales.
- Payout: proceeds go to your Vinted balance after the buyer confirms everything is OK (or the inspection window passes), and you can transfer the balance to your bank account.
Ways to keep more of each Vinted sale
- Price for the buyer's real total. A $25 item costs the buyer $26.95 before shipping because of the $0.70 + 5% protection fee, so match competitors on the delivered price, not the sticker.
- Accept offers freely. With no percentage fee, every dollar you knock off is exactly one dollar less in your pocket, and nothing is lost to commission math.
- Bundles help buyers more than you might expect: the $0.70 fixed part of the protection fee and shipping are paid once for the whole bundle, so a bundle discount can still leave the buyer paying less per item.
- Compare before you cross-list. The same $25 sale nets $25.00 on Vinted, $20.00 on Poshmark, and $23.72 on Depop after its 3.3% + $0.45 processing fee.
- Use bumps only for items with proven demand. A bump is a flat charge you pay whether or not the item sells, so it is the one way to lose money on a fee-free platform.
