Worked example
A seller meets a buyer locally and is paid $60. OfferUp takes nothing from in-person sales, so the selling fee is $0. The seller pays $19.99 a month for Promote Plus and sells about 10 items a month, so the subscription works out to $2.00 per sale. Net is $58.00, and after the $20 the item cost, profit is $38.00. Without Promote Plus the seller would keep the full $60.
How OfferUp fees work
OfferUp is a local buy-and-sell app: furniture, electronics, cars, tools, clothing and household goods listed by people near you, with in-app messaging to arrange a meetup. It is the biggest local marketplace app in the US outside Facebook Marketplace, and since late 2025 it is local only.
That matters for fees. OfferUp used to offer nationwide shipping with a service fee on shipped sales (12.9%, minimum $1.99). On September 23, 2025 sellers could no longer choose shipping on new listings, and on October 21, 2025 OfferUp removed the shipping option from every existing item. Today every sale is an in-person transaction, and OfferUp states plainly that it does not charge fees or take a commission on in-person transactions. The buyer pays you directly in cash or through whatever payment app you agree on.
The costs that remain are optional. Promote Plus keeps one item at the top of the feed for $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year, with a three-day free trial the first time. You can also buy single promotions, extra For Sale listings beyond the free monthly allotment (package pricing varies by category), OfferUp Premium for an ad-free experience, and paid listings for jobs and services. None of these are required to sell.
- Selling fee: none. OfferUp does not charge fees or take a commission on in-person transactions, and all OfferUp sales are now in person. What the buyer hands you is what you keep.
- Shipping service fee: ended. The former fee on shipped orders no longer applies because shipping was removed from new listings on September 23, 2025 and from all existing listings on October 21, 2025.
- Promote Plus (optional): $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year to keep one item promoted at the top of the feed for as many days as you want, switchable between your active items. First-time subscribers get a 3-day free trial.
- Single promotions and extra listings (optional): you can buy an individual promotion for one listing, and sellers who exceed the free monthly allotment of For Sale listings can buy additional listings or a subscription bundle. Package pricing varies by category and number of listings and is shown in the app.
- Paid categories: posting jobs and some services carries a listing fee. OfferUp Premium is a paid subscription for an ad-free experience; it does not change selling costs.
- Payment: OfferUp is not part of the payment on in-person sales. If you accept a payment app instead of cash, that app's own terms and fees apply, not OfferUp's.
Ways to keep more of each OfferUp sale
- Take cash or an instant-transfer payment app you already use; OfferUp does not process the payment, so there is no platform fee to price around.
- Promote Plus at $19.99 a month only pays off if the boosted visibility sells items you would not otherwise move. Selling 10 items a month makes it $2 per sale; selling 2 makes it $10 per sale.
- Try the 3-day Promote Plus trial on your highest-value listing rather than a $15 item, and switch the promotion to a new item as soon as one sells.
- Stay inside the free monthly listing allotment by deleting sold or stale listings before posting new ones, since extra listings cost money by category.
- Meet at a safe public spot and let the buyer inspect the item first; without OfferUp payments there is no platform refund process, so a completed handoff is final.

Does OfferUp charge seller fees?

What happened to the OfferUp shipping fee?

Can I still ship items on OfferUp?
No. Shipping is no longer available for any listing. Sellers who want to ship use other platforms such as eBay, Mercari or Facebook Marketplace.
