How Gumroad fees work

Gumroad is a checkout and storefront service for creators. You upload a product, set a price, and share a link; Gumroad handles the payment, delivery, and (since 2025) sales tax. People use it for ebooks, courses, templates, presets, software, music, memberships, and some physical goods.

The fee is one line: 10% + $0.50 per transaction on sales that come through your own profile or direct links. A $10 product costs you $1.50 in fees; a $100 product costs $10.50. There is no monthly subscription and no listing fee, so a product that never sells costs nothing.

Sales that arrive through Gumroad Discover, the built-in marketplace where new customers browse and search, are charged a flat 30% instead. That is the price of the referral: Gumroad brought the buyer. Repeat purchases from your own links stay at 10% + $0.50.

Two things to know before you price. First, Gumroad's help center says the 10% + $0.50 fee does not include credit card processing or PayPal fees, so the real deduction is a little higher than the headline number. Second, as of January 1, 2025 Gumroad is the merchant of record: it charges, collects, and remits sales tax and VAT worldwide, so the tax added at checkout is not your money and not part of your fee base.

• Direct sales: 10% of the sale price plus $0.50 per transaction. Applies to every sale through your profile, product links, and embeds. On a $25 sale that is $2.50 + $0.50 = $3.00.
• Discover sales: a flat 30% of the sale price, charged instead of the 10% + $0.50 when a new customer finds and buys from you through the Discover marketplace. A $25 Discover sale costs $7.50.
• Payment processing: Gumroad's fee page states the 10% + $0.50 fee "does not include" credit card processing or PayPal fees. Gumroad does not publish those rates on its pricing page, so this calculator leaves them out; budget for a separate processing deduction on each sale.
• No monthly fee: Gumroad's pricing page says it does not charge a monthly fee. Fees are deducted from each sale, so an unsold product costs nothing.
• Sales tax is outside the fee: since January 1, 2025 Gumroad is the merchant of record and handles sales tax and VAT collection and remittance. The tax charged to the buyer is passed to tax authorities, not counted in your sale price.
• Payouts: Gumroad pays by direct deposit or PayPal depending on your country. The schedule and minimum balance are in the "Getting paid" help article.

Ways to keep more of each Gumroad sale

• Send your own traffic. A sale from your email list or social link costs 10% + $0.50; the same sale through Discover costs 30%. On a $50 product that is $5.50 versus $15.
• Price to absorb the 50-cent fixed part. On a $2 product the $0.50 alone is 25% of the price; on a $20 product it is 2.5%. Bundling small items into one purchase cuts the number of $0.50 charges.
• Treat Discover as paid acquisition. The extra 20 points only apply to the first purchase a new customer makes through Discover, so it can be worth it for products with follow-on sales or memberships.
• Do not add sales tax to your price. Gumroad collects and remits it as merchant of record, so pricing in tax just makes your product look more expensive and raises the base Gumroad takes 10% of.
• Check the payout details before launch. Payout method and timing vary by country, so confirm your bank or PayPal setup in Gumroad's Getting paid article.
