Worked example
A car listed and sold at $12,000 is at or under $15,000, so the listing fee is $34. The buyer pays a $500 deposit in checkout and eBay keeps 2.8% of it, $14.00, paying out the other $486.00. There is no final value fee, so total eBay fees are $48.00 and you keep $11,952.00 of the $12,000. After the $9,000 the car cost you, profit is $2,952.00.
How eBay Motors fees work
eBay Motors is eBay's marketplace for vehicles: cars and trucks, motorcycles, powersports, boats, and other vehicles and trailers. Sellers list by auction or at a fixed price, buyers from anywhere in the country bid or buy, and the winning buyer pays a deposit through eBay's checkout.
Vehicle fees work differently from the rest of eBay. There is no percentage commission: eBay says it doesn't charge a final value fee when your vehicle sells. Instead you pay one listing fee that depends on the listing price, $34 for a vehicle listed at $15,000 or less and $79 for a vehicle listed over $15,000. Both include 40 photos, an auction of up to 10 days or a 30-day fixed-price listing, an AutoCheck report on Cars & Trucks listings, and Secure Purchase. The fee is charged when you list, charged again at each relist if you opt into auto-relist, and is nonrefundable whether or not the vehicle sells.
The only other selling fee is on the deposit. When you list with a deposit requirement and the buyer pays it in checkout, eBay keeps a deposit processing fee of 2.8% of the deposit and pays you the rest. On a $500 deposit that is $14.00, so $486.00 reaches you. Parts and accessories sold in Motors categories are not covered here; they follow eBay's regular selling fees.

- Which price sets the fee: the listing price. For auctions, eBay uses the highest of the starting bid, the reserve price or the Buy It Now price, so a $9,000 starting bid with a $16,000 reserve is a $79 listing.
- When it is charged: at the time of listing, and again at each relist if you opt into auto-relist. Listing fees are nonrefundable, so a vehicle that doesn't sell still costs $34 or $79 per listing.
- Final value fee: none. eBay does not charge a final value fee when a vehicle sells, whatever the price.
- Deposit processing fee: 2.8% of the deposit amount, charged when the vehicle sells and the buyer pays the deposit in checkout. It is deducted from the deposit before the remaining funds are paid out to you, which happens once both buyer and seller have completed Secure Purchase.
- Deposit amounts: for vehicles listed at $1,000 or more, you pick the deposit from the options eBay offers when you create the listing; they are at least 1% of the listing price. For vehicles listed under $1,000, eBay sets the amount.
- Older package pricing: auto-relists of listings created before April 15, 2026, and listings made with older versions of the eBay and eBay Motors apps, still use the Basic ($19), Plus ($34) and Premium ($79) packages.
Ways to keep more of each eBay Motors sale
- Watch the $15,000 line. A listing at $15,000 costs $34 and one at $15,001 costs $79, so if your asking price is close, listing at $15,000 or less saves $45.
- Set auction terms with the fee in mind. The fee uses the highest of your starting bid, reserve and Buy It Now price, so a reserve or Buy It Now above $15,000 makes it a $79 listing even with a low starting bid.
- Think before turning on auto-relist. Each relist is a new nonrefundable listing fee; three runs of a $34 listing cost $102.
- The 2.8% applies only to the deposit, not the vehicle price: $14.00 on a $500 deposit, $28.00 on $1,000. A larger deposit costs a little more in fees, so choose it for the commitment you want from the buyer, not by default.
- Because there is no final value fee, eBay's cost is nearly flat. On a $12,000 sale with a $500 deposit the fees are $48.00, or 0.4% of the price, so price the vehicle on condition and market value rather than padding for fees.
