How Authorize.net fees work

Authorize.net is one of the oldest payment gateways in the US and is still the default choice for businesses that run a traditional merchant account, a virtual terminal or an older shopping cart. Visa owns it. The pricing is simple, but it works differently from Stripe or Square because it is split into two options.

The All-in-One option bundles a merchant account with the gateway: $25 a month plus 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. The Payment Gateway Only option is for businesses that already have a merchant account with a bank or processor: $25 a month, 10¢ per transaction and a 10¢ daily batch fee, on top of whatever your own processor charges. eCheck (ACH) processing through the gateway costs 0.75% per transaction with a $10 monthly minimum.

There are no setup fees, no contracts and no early termination fees, and the credit-card chargeback fee is $0.00 (eCheck chargebacks are $25). Because the $25 is monthly, the per-order share depends on your volume: 100 transactions a month adds 25¢ each; 20 transactions adds $1.25 each. Enter your monthly transaction count and this calculator spreads the fee for you.
