Worked example

Sale
$40.00
Fees
$36.00
You keep
$4.00

A customer buys a framed art print of your design and the net sale amount, after any discount, is $40.00. Framed art is in the 10% group, so Society6 keeps 90%, or $36.00, and you earn $4.00. The same $40.00 spent on a product in the 5% group, or on a trade or wholesale order, would earn you $2.00.

How Society6 fees work

Society6 is a print-on-demand marketplace for art and home decor. Artists upload designs, and Society6 prints them on framed art, posters, pillows, wall tapestries and other products, sets the retail price and sells them to customers. Society6 now limits and approves which artists and designs can be sold, so new sellers apply through its Sell Your Art page.

Artist pay is a fixed share of the sale. Since March 18, 2025, Society6 sets standardized retail prices and artists no longer choose their own markups. You earn 10% of the net sale amount on pillows (rectangle and square), wall tapestries, framed art (art prints, framed art prints and recessed framed prints) and posters, and 5% of the net sale amount on every other product. Trade, wholesale and marketplace orders pay 5%. The net sale amount is the customer's final purchase price for the item after any sale or discount.

There are no other deductions to model. Society6 stopped deducting artist shipping fees from earnings for orders placed from March 18, 2025, and it no longer charges for Artist Plans. On a $40.00 framed art print you earn $4.00 and Society6 keeps $36.00.

Earnings are paid by PayPal between the first and third business day of each month, once an order has cleared its 30-day pending period.

Good to know

Rates are from Society6's help article on the March 18, 2025 pricing and artist-earnings changes and its Pricing & Earnings help pages, read 2026-10-04. The help pages do not say whether shipping charges and sales tax are excluded from the net sale amount; enter the item price after discounts. Society6 sets retail prices, so the $40.00 default is only an illustration. The help center does not state a minimum payout amount. Society6 limits and approves which artists and designs can be sold; the current application process is described on its Sell Your Art page and was not reviewed for this page. Any fees PayPal charges to receive or withdraw earnings are not included.
